UCF Incubator Scientist Named Secretary of The Laser Institute of America

Orlando, Fla. (March 5, 2003) - A University of Central Florida Technology Incubator scientist has been named secretary of the Laser Institute of America, a leading professional association of laser engineers, scientists and manufacturers.

Carol Ann Dykes, associate director of the UCF Technology Incubator, said Nat Quick, founder and president of AppliCote Associates, LLC, one of 30 Technology Incubator companies that have generated more than 400 new jobs and more than $100 million in revenues, was named secretary of the scientific organization and could play a leading role in the development of laser technology in the U.S.

Central Florida is one of the world centers for development of laser photonics technology" said Dykes. "Nat Quick and AppliCote are one of the biggest reasons why." The Laser Institute of America coordinates scientific conferences that focus on laser technology, including the annual International Congress on Applications of Lasers and Electro Optics (ICALEO).

Quick, who joined the Laser Institute some 14 years ago, was named a senior member as a result of his work with laser conversion materials. He was elected to the board of directors last year.
