University of Central Florida Technology Incubator Firm Wins U.S. Army Contract To Develop Portable Soldier
Cooling System

Orlando, Fla. (April 22, 2003) - When U.S. troops invade terrorist-supporting countries in the future, soldiers may carry individual portable cooling systems developed by a University of Central Florida Technology Incubator firm.

Rini Technologies, Inc. (RTI), recently won a U.S. Army contract to develop the Portable Soldier Cooling System. The lightweight unit attaches to the belt or backpack of a soldier and cools the body during operations in environments where temperature and humidity could combine to cause heat prostration or worse, said Dr. Daniel Rini, president and chief executive officer of the firm.

Recent technological innovations developed by RTI will soon result in the most compact and efficient personal cooling unit ever developed, said Rini.

Carol Ann Dykes, associate director of the UCF Technology Incubator, said Rini Technologies is one of the program's most valuable firms. "RTI is developing cutting edge technologies that could create well-paid jobs here in Orlando."
