University Of Central Florida Technology Incubator Firm Wins U.S. Air Force Contract To Develop Cooling System For Combat Laser Weapons Mounted On Jets

Orlando, Fla. (April 29, 2003) - In the future, U.S. Air Force fighter jets will fly into battle with powerful new weapons - combat lasers - thanks in part to components developed by a University of Central Florida Technology Incubator firm. Rini Technologies, Inc. (RTI) recently won an Air Force contract to develop an Evaporative Spray Cooling (ESC) system for a 100-kW solid-state laser weapon system mounted on fighter aircraft.

Dr. Daniel Rini, president and chief executive officer at Rini Technologies, said a patent-pending system the firm developed could help enable aircraft-mounted laser weapons. "The system we are developing offers a more effective and efficient cooling system than current technology," Rini said.

Carol Ann Dykes, associate director of the UCF Technology Incubator, said Rini Technologies is one of the program's outstanding firms. "RTI is developing cutting edge technologies that contribute to America's defense efforts."
