Orlando, Fla. (November 21, 2003) - Thanks to its partnership with the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC), the UCF Technology Incubator (UCFTI) has entered into an agreement with Ana G. Mendez University System in Puerto Rico to help it launch its own technology incubator in San Juan next year.
"Officials from the Ana G. Mendez University System recently visited the Orlando area and the EDC introduced them to many organizations and government officials, including the UCFTI. They were very impressed and expressed interest in using our program as a model," said Tom O'Neal, CEO of the Incubator.
Over the next year, UCFTI will consult on various operational and financial plans for the proposed Incubator in San Juan as well as a network of incubators to be established across the country. Officials from Puerto Rico will shadow UCFTI officials and visit other incubators in Florida.
"This announcement is a testament to the great work being done at the UCF Technology Incubator," said Ray Gilley, president and CEO of the EDC. "Having been recognized as one of the top ten such facilities in the United States, it is fitting that Ana G. Mendez University is using UCFTI as an example of how incubators can impact a region's diversification efforts through increasing the success rate of start-up companies."
