Orlando, Fla. (November 17, 2005)--- Acenda Inc., a University
of Central Florida Technology Incubator firm, has been tapped to
provide part of the Digital Story exhibit at the Orange County
Regional History Center (www.digitalstoryquilt.com).
Gaidi Hartage, founder and chief executive officer of Ascenda,
Inc., said his firm developed software for an interactive kiosk
at the History Center’s exhibit opening December 7 that uses
quilts as a method of storytelling.
“The exhibit details the rich history of quilts and quilting
and how quilters have used this art form to communicate stories
and culture,” Hartage said. Visitors to the exhibit can use
Ascenda’s interactive software to design a unique digital
story he said.
“Visitors can create a digital quilt on the screen by selecting
patches that represent who they are.” said Hartage. “We
are replicating the creative decisions of many quilters in the
18th and 19th centuries,” Hartage said. When completed, the
digital patches are projected on a quilted fabric screen.
Ascenda partnered with UCF doctoral student Michelle Ferrier, whose
dissertation research inspired the exhibit. Hartage said the virtual
quilt exhibit may tour to other museums and Ascenda’s software
will travel with the exhibit.

Ascenda recently leased a kiosk to the History Center for a special
Remembering Orlando exhibit that provides a video demonstration
and sound clips.
“Now that we have mastered the technology, it is surprising
how simple it is to create unique, one-of-a-kind interactive programs
for museums, galleries, entertainment venues, and even restaurants,” said
Hartage. “We can make it fun to do everything from choosing
a dinner menu to checking into a hotel to designing a unique virtual
community” Hartage explained, adding, “and it is surprisingly
affordable.”
