Sanford, Fla., (April, xx, 2005) -- AppliCote Associates, LLC,
has received a three-year contract from INTEL Corporation to develop
laser processing technology for INTEL's next generation of electronics
packaging, Nat Quick, founder and chief executive officer, said.
Quick said lasers processing and materials will be developed to
fabricate circuit board electrically conductive interconnects reduced
in size by half which will allow for increased density of interconnects
on the boards. That will enable INTEL to increase the functionality
on a single circuit board. The new process and materials will maintain
the current production rate, according to Quick.
INTEL's Assembly and Technology Development Group will closely
coordinate the project to help rapidly integrate the new technology
into their semiconductor plants.
AppliCote Associates, LLC has partnered with the University of
Central Florida 's Center for Research and Education in Optics
and Lasers (CREOL). Dr. Aravinda Kar, Director of the Laser Advanced
Materials Processing Laboratory (LAMP), will model the process,
which will reduce equipment design time and allow rapid insertion
into INTEL's manufacturing process.
AppliCote Associates, LLC is recognized for its materials science
expertise and development of laser materials processing technologies,
particularly for electronic materials, and its established
collaboration with academic institutions. The company is developing
technologies critical to next-generation semi-conductors used in
the communications and power control industries.
AppliCote is a joint client of the UCF Technology Incubator and
the Seminole Technology Business Incubation Center.
