(Orlando,
FL) – The Joustä 3rd Annual Business Plan
Tournament will be held April 13-14, 2006 at the University of
Central Florida’s (UCF) Student Union. Over the two
days, aspiring entrepreneurs will go head-to-head presenting
ideas for new ventures. The winners will leave with thousands
of dollars to launch their business. The deadline for The
Joustä applicants is Monday, March 27, 2006.
In its third year, The Joustä is the first university-wide
business plan competition at UCF. The competition is open
to students of all colleges and disciplines and may include faculty,
alumni and community entrepreneurs. The lead organizer
of the campus-wide tournament is Dr. Cameron Ford, Associate
Professor in the College of Business. "This event joins the
energy of our students, the expertise of our faculty and staff,
and the interests of the business community toward the common
goal of improving Central Florida's economy," Ford said.
Last year’s Joust winner, Adastra Labs, LLC, a
company that provides lightweight, portable headsets that combine
real-world scenes with 3-D, virtual reality images, won $3,000
in prize money and assistance from the UCF Technology Incubator
for one year. Since competing in The Joustä, Adastra
has completed a prototype for the first release of the headset,
which is used in military training simulations, medical imaging
and online games; and is identifying potential markets for its
product, manufacturing and methods of distribution.
Additionally, Symiosis, the first Joust winner, is a
company seeking to utilize advanced interactive simulation technologies
in branding and marketing applications (i.e. kiosks).
All Joust teams have a chance to refine their presentation skills
and attract investors from among the judges, which include seasoned
entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and executives from an array
of entrepreneurial organizations in the local business community.
