The program also receives sponsorship from the Kauffman Foundation, established by the late entrepreneur and philanthropist, Ewing Marion Kauffman,to foster a “society of economically independent individuals who are engaged citizens, contributing to the improvement of their communities.” This workshop began four years ago as a partnership with UCF and the NCIIA to teach technology entrepreneurship basics, help build networks, and provide framework for moving ideas forward. Throughout the past 4 years, this Invention to Venture workshop has been held in such technology hotspots as Boston, MA, San Diego, CA, Chicago, IL and Gainesville, FL.

Over 200 entrepreneurs attend the Orlando workshop each year. Topics include market research, financing your venture, and creating your business plan.  What makes I2V different? Attendees will hear from real entrepreneurs, investors, and advisors on how to create a successful business in any area, including high-tech startups, through workshop activities and hands on experience they can use the moment they leave the conference.

Invention to Venture workshops are directed to:

  • Students/faculty interested technology entrepreneurship and how to commercialize research
  • Members of the university community who are entrepreneurially ambitious
  • Business people seeking connections with university students and faculty
  • Investors seeking high growth potential companies
  • Businesses seeking to identify new technology opportunities

The NCIIA was created to promote invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship in higher education mainly to create innovative, commercially feasible, and socially beneficial businesses and employment opportunities in the U.S.

The NCIIA began its program based on the belief that invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship are not only important but a necessary part of higher education curriculum and will be vital to our nation’s economic future. The NCIIA works with colleges and universities to create these experiential learning programs that are intended to help nurture a new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who have strong technical and business skills as well as the tools and the ambition to make this world a better place.
