Orlando, Fla. (March 29, 2007)– Applied Visual Technology, (AVT) Simulation, an Orlando based software and engineering contractor, recently received a subcontract to support its development of enhancements to 12 reconfigurable helicopter training systems delivered to the British Army in Middle Wallop, England.
Cliff Ingari, vice president of AVT Simulation, said AVT Simulation originally designed, developed and installed the trainers under a subcontract to Rockwell Collins (formerly Evans and Sutherland of Salt Lake City, Utah). The trainers support multiple phases of training for the WAH-64 Apache Longbow, Lynx and Gazelle helicopter platforms.
AVT developed the following components for the training systems:
- 12 Reconfigurable student stations;
- Instructor-Operator Station and After Action Review Mission Planning stations;
- Avionics and aircraft survivability equipment simulations;
- Tactical simulation with semi-automated forces and computer-generated forces
- Crew control interface
- Mission planning system interface
- Network and sound system interface
Ingari said the upgrade contract will enable AVT Simulation to provide additional hardware and software functionality and enhancements to the student and instructor stations. The additional functionality to be provided will include: visual system enhancements such as improved Out-the-Window Forward Looking Infrared and Night Vision Goggle simulations, dynamic terrain, special effects such as controllable smoke/rain/snow/sand, seasonal terrain, rotor-wash effects, an Afghanistan database, and additional simulation models including fully articulated civilians. Other improvements include Squirrel aircraft simulation, improved cockpit video recording, improved weapon system flight dynamics, expanded Apache helicopter functionality.
AVT Simulation is a client of the UCF Technology Incubator and located in the Central Florida Research Park.
