ORLANDO, Fla. (February 21, 2008) – Group Table announced
today that it has launched a private beta version of GroupTable.com,
the newest online solution for collegiate study groups and organizations.
The site was conceived by UCF undergraduate students who lacked
a tool that would help them study and collaborate with classmates.
They honed the concept through numerous focus groups and surveys
of high-achieving college students like themselves and began
product development July 2007.
"Until now, physical proximity has been a requirement for
successful study groups and other group projects,” explained
Dave Brim, a co-founder of the company. “Being able to
hand something across a table, ask a question, or listen to
interpretations from an array of other perspectives is what
makes study groups work. But most high-achieving students have
over-filled schedules. Many participate in organizations, work
part-time, have an active social life, and are taking a full
course load. GroupTable.com allows them to participate
in their study groups, group projects, and organizations online
as if they were sitting there together,” he said.
GroupTable’s powerful technology increases group and individual
productivity, giving students the ability to move their existing
study groups, project groups or student organizations online,
or create new ones. For example, third year law students on
a mock trial team at Barry University Law School are using GroupTable.com
to share documents, discuss their case, and organize for an
upcoming competition.
“My trial competition team is actually using it as a sort
of study/work table in cyberspace,” says Roy Wolgamuth,
JD Candidate 2008. “All the members of the trial team
who are competing in Chicago are linked in one place; sharing
documents, questions, and thoughts each at their own convenience.
It is pretty neat!”
Group Table expects to open the new site to a larger audience
of beta users in March, with a full-scale launch of the product
in the second quarter of this year.
Group Table is a client of the UCF Technology Incubator.
